Lucía Citores studied Chemistry at the University of Valladolid, Spain, and completed her PhD in Biochemistry in 1996. From 1997 to 2004 she worked at the Institute for Cancer Research in Oslo, Norway, as a postdoctoral researcher. During this time, she became interested in the endocytosis and intracellular transport of fibroblast growth factors and their receptors. She returned to Spain in 2004, and for five years she stayed at the University of Valladolid as a postdoctoral researcher from the program Ramón y Cajal. In 2009, she was appointed as Non-civil servant tenured Lecturer in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Valladolid and in 2011 she was appointed as Associated Professor in the same area. Dr. Citores is teaching Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to undergraduate and graduate students.

Her research interests have focused on distribution, activity and structure of ribosome-inactivating proteins and ribotoxins and how they enter and intoxicate mammalian and fungal cells. She is an Ordinary member of the Research Group of the University of Valladolid: «ProtIbio-Plant and Fungal Proteins of Biotechnological Interest».
